The Gospel Is Good News!
“Gospel” is a Bible word that simply means “good news.”
It’s good news that will change your life. But there’s some bad news you need to hear first.
The bad news and the good news are summarized in one verse from the Bible:
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23)
The Wages of Sin Is Death
We are all sinners.
• “There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10)
• “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)
God is holy, and our sins against Him have consequences.
• “Death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12)
• “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27)
• “Anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire”
(Revelation 20:15)
This is bad news. But there’s more to the story!
The Gift of God Is Eternal Life in Jesus
God offers salvation as a free gift.
• “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord” (Romans 6:23)
• “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the
gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Jesus died for your sins and rose from the dead.
• “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through Me.’” (John 14:6)
• “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16)
• “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8)
How to Experience Salvation
Salvation is a gift that cannot be earned, only received.
• Jesus said, “Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15).
To receive this gift, you must simply turn away from your sin and efforts at self-
righteousness and put your trust in Jesus alone.
• “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God
raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
You could pray a prayer like this:
“God, I know that I’m a sinner, and I deserve Your punishment. But I want this free gift of
eternal life. I believe that Jesus died for me and rose from the dead. Right now, I turn away
from my sin and self-righteousness and put my faith in Jesus Christ alone. Thank You for
this free gift of forgiveness and life.”
